Introduction
The Swadesh Darshan Scheme was launched in 2015 by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, to develop sustainable and responsible tourism destinations in the country. The Ministry had sanctioned 76 projects under the Scheme to date. With the mantra of ‘vocal for local’, the revamped scheme namely Swadesh Darshan 2.0 seeks to attain “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” by realizing India’s full potential as a tourism destination. Swadesh Darshan 2.0 is not an incremental change but a generational shift to evolve Swadesh Darshan Scheme as a holistic mission to develop sustainable and responsible tourism destinations covering tourism and allied infrastructure, tourism services, human capital development, destination management and promotion backed by policy and institutional reforms. The current scheme envisages development of sustainable and responsible tourist destinations in the country by adopting the Destination Centric Approach.
Swadesh Darshan 2.0 Project aims to transform Chandil into an educative tourism destination
Chandil dam is one of the more scenic places in Jharkhand. Part of the Seraikela District and surrounded by many waterbodies and lush forests, the region is famous for the Chandil Dam and its expansive reservoir, Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, and other smaller dams and reservoirs. Located just 40 minutes from Jamshedpur and about 2.5 hours from Ranchi, Chandil is a popular ‘quick getaway’ destination for travellers from Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. Travellers on visits to pilgrim centres nearby often combine such trips with leisure and picnic trips.
Under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme of the Ministry of Tourism-Govt. Of India, Chandil is being developed as a wholesome tourism destination, in a sustainable manner where responsible tourism practices are encouraged.
Most of the tourist spots in Chandil cater to casual visitation, resulting in picnicking and boating as the main activities.
With a vision to transform Chandil from a casual visitation destination, to one that combines outdoor recreation of high quality with educative experiences utilizing its natural resources and cultural strengths, Chandil Dam is set to undergo a facelift.
“There’s Always More to do in Chandil!”
